The city is internationally famous for the Battle of Arnhem which took place in and around Arnhem from 17th to 25th September 1944 as part of Operation Market Garden. Arnhem is not only historically interesting but also culturally! You can shop for hours and hours in the city centre and the Fashion Quarter (Modekwartier), enjoy the nightlife or the spectacular natural surroundings in one of the city’s parks. There are also all kinds of creative events to visit, such as the Arnhem Fashion Festival. Alternatively, you could spend the day at one the top attractions, like Royal Burgers’ Zoo or the Netherlands Open Air Museum (Nederlands Openluchtmuseum). These attractions draw many millions of visitors every year and there’s something for everybody.

Historic Cellars Arnhem
The shopping streets in Arnhem hide around 36 centuries-old cellars, restored to their old glory and connected with each other in 2001. Eusebius Church Panoramic
(photo by Fruggo 2004) The glass panorama lift in the church tower reaches a height of 73 metres, providing visitors with a sweeping view of the city, river and forests. An even higher point can be reached via a winding staircase. The lift makes a stopover at 63 metres so visitors can stand on the glass balconies to view the exterior of the restored tower. The famous Disney gargoyles, added after the Second World War, can be seen from the balconies. More

A museum in Oosterbeek near Arnhem about the Battle of Arnhem in September 1944. Operation Market Garden. Located in the former headquarters of the British troops. It has an extensive collection with weapons, clothing, equipment and also interviews, photographs and videos. Follow in the footsteps of a soldier in the award-winning Airborne Experience. At the Arnhem Rijnkade, opposite the John Frost Bridge, there is also , Airborne at the Bridge, a information center about the Battle of Arnhem. More
Kröller Müller Museum
A national art museum and sculpture garden, located in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo in the Netherlands. It has the second-largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh. And other works by Mondrian, Seurat, Redon, Braque, Gauguin, Cranach, Ensor, Gris, and Picasso.
Also famous for one of the largest sculpture garden in Europe, with works by Rodin, Moore, Dubuffet, di Suvero, Fontana, Oldenburg, Wotruba and van Lieshout. More
A gift from Royal Burgers’ Zoo to the city of Arnhem
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the zoo, the Royal Burgers’ Zoo donated an enormous work of art by Florentijn Hofman to Arnhem. The thirty meter long and nine meter high Party Aardvark was unveiled on Thursday 12 September 2013.
Artist Florentijn Hofman designed the Party Aardvark on behalf of Royal Burgers’ Zoo on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the zoo in 2013. Hofman was inspired by the aardvark, a species that is only kept in the Arnhem Zoo in the Netherlands. Royal Burgers’ Zoo gave the Party Aardvark to the city of Arnhem as a gift to underline the close relationship between the zoo and Arnhem.
Visit the Party Aardvark! You will find the Party Aardvark at 200 meters walking distance behind Hôtel Nouvelle, in front of the entrance of the Rozet building.
Experience the story of Arnhem and its surroundings in Cultural Centre Rozet
Behind Hôtel Nouvelle, only 100 meters walking distance, is the free accessible Rozet. The beautiful building houses the Library, the Art Company, the People’ University, Art Loan toART and the Heritage Centre. The building was designed by Neutelings Riedijk Architects from Rotterdam and was officially opened by Princess Beatrix on 10 December 2013.
You can discover the building via an impressive 200-metre-long stairwell, the inner street. From the panoramic terrace on the top floor you have a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings.
On the lower floor (-1) you will find the Heritage Centre. Here you will find the history of Arnhem and Gelderland. Here you can find ceramics, landscape maps, jewellery and a large collection of books. The museum does not end on the lower floor, but continues in all showcases and frames along the imposing staircase of the Rozet building.
Arnhemse Meisjes (Arnhem Biscuits)
Getting hungry from visiting all the surroundings of Hôtel Nouvelle? What about some nice local cookies? Arnhemse Meisjes are oval hard-baked biscuits of yeast dough sprinkled with sugar. The biscuits were baked for the first time in 1829 by baker Hagdorn in Arnhem.
Not local but typically Dutch; The Stroopwafel (Syrup Waffle). A waffle made from two thin layers of baked dough with a caramel syrup filling in the middle.It is popular in the Netherlands, where they were first made in the city of Gouda.
